Leatherhead Rifle Club has been actively shooting sporting rifle for many years at Bisley. We are well known at the camp and have competed at most of the Sporting Rifle events. We have also been active in all activities thorough Bisley, whether as a club or as Individuals. The majority of members are all-rounders, participating in all types of shooting.

Shooting from the prone position at 100 yards on Short Siberia at Bisley
The B.S.R.C. (British Sporting Rifle Club) run an Interclub shoot twice a year for all affiliated clubs. This is very popular; each club enters one or two teams of four. Leatherhead has been holding its own against the best of the teams, especially against the BSRC teams who are very hard to beat. As an affiliated/private club NO ONE is aloud to operate the BSRC running targets without a qualified BSRC Range Officer. Leatherhead Rifle Club has many qualified BSRC Range Officers, as well as qualified Range Officers for NRA & NSRA.
Sporting Rifle is becoming a very popular sport and is not as simple as it seems. Target shooting is mainly shot in three positions at static targets; the targets are sometimes on turning mechanisms that only edge the target. Sporting Rifle targets vary from static at 100m and can be moving from right to left & left to right at speed. It also incorporates a number of different shooting positions. This symbolises the different aspects of hunting for game & vermin. When shooting at Deer, Roebuck & Fox targets, centre fire rifle calibres must be used; there are some exceptions, there are some calibres that are not aloud on this range; for example:
.22-250, this exceeds the range safety limit & Pistol Calibre Rifles may not be used.
With Static & Running Deer ranges there are two general classifications:
- A class under .243 calibre. (A class shooters are not aloud additional support)
- B class (Deer legal) .243 calibre and above.
- (*These can be shot with the help of single or double shooting sticks, if required.)
The Running Deer has 3 general courses of fire at 100m:
- Singles - one round is fired at a moving target, going away and on the return.
- Doubles - two rounds is fired at a moving target, going away and on the return.
- Stop at wall - one round fired at a static target, on report of the shot, the target moves and another round is fired while the target is in motion. Repeat this on the return.

- Roebuck - 10 rounds sitting, snap shooting, two series of 5 shots.
- Sitting Fox – 10 rounds standing, two series of 5 shots*, each series is shot in a time limit of one minute.
- On B.A.S.C. match days a target computer system is used.

Deer, Chamois and Fox targets at the BSRC layout
We also shoot a Running Boar target at 50m, using .22LR calibre only.
The range incorporates a CCTV system for scoring.
The Running Boar range has 2 general courses of fire at 50m:
- Slow - one round is fired at the away target and on the return.
- Fast - one round is fired at the away target and on the return. (this target is twice the speed)
The B.S.R.C. also has an indoor 10m air rifle moving target range within their club house. Where scaled down Running Deer targets are used.
